Tapiola School

Our design focused on modernizing existing structures while preserving the unique architectural identity of Jorma Järven's original design from 1958–1960. We meticulously recreated facades to match the original building, integrating new extensions that align with the cohesive architectural style.

We collaborated closely with the City of Espoo, the City Museum and Building Control to maintain the integrity of the original design, ensuring seamless integration of new building systems. The renovated building accommodates modern educational needs with spaces such as studios, music rooms and stages, featuring specially constructed soundproof glass walls. The preserved elements serve as a historical landmark at the heart of Tapiola, maintaining the valuable cityscape and characteristic pines. The courtyard plantings enhance the connection with the surrounding forest and park areas, offering a vibrant communal focal point. We honoured the original architecture by restoring façade colours, interior colours and details such as veneer-finished doors and tiled window sills, ensuring a harmonious blend of old and new.
