History

Siren Architects traces its origins to 1925, when J.S. Sirén won the design competition for the Finnish Parliament House, a landmark that defined the firm’s early reputation. Under the leadership of Kaija and Heikki Siren from 1948, the practice expanded both in Finland and internationally, creating distinctive public buildings, educational and sports facilities, and complex heritage renovations. Since 1984, under Jukka Siren’s direction, the office became known for its personal approach, where each project – from intricate details to large-scale masterplans – reflected a deep understanding of client needs and the original spirit of the place.

Arkkitehdit Davidsson Tarkela was founded in Helsinki in 1985 with a focus on the renovation and extension of listed buildings as well as demanding new construction. In projects involving protected and historically significant buildings, aDT’s extensive understanding of the site’s societal, local and future significance has garnered praise and awards for the office. In new construction, aDT is known for diverse public projects including museums, hotels, convention centres, offices, schools and sports facilities.

In 2018, aDT became part of Solwers Plc, strengthening its capacity for complex, multidisciplinary work. In 2024, Siren Architects also joined Solwers Plc, and it was decided to merge the two offices into a new practice: Davidsson Tarkela Siren Architects.

Today, we carry forward the values and skills honed over generations – uniting exceptional experience in heritage renovation with cutting-edge capabilities in demanding new builds. This rare combination allows us to approach every commission with a unique perspective, balancing respect for history with a vision for the future.
