What We Do

Historic restoration and refurbishment – preserving landmark buildings such as the Finnish National Theatre.

Adaptive reuse and re-purposing – breathing new life into existing properties as implemented in the L2 Warehouse by Lars Sonck.

New build – overseeing the project from concept to completion, including the Clarion Hotel and KPMG Headquarters.

Urban design – integrating town plan changes into the event and fair centre Messukeskus.

Interior design – designing high-quality public and workplace interiors, such as the Clarion Hotel and the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

Sports design – designing complex sports facilities: the Elmo swimming hall in Vantaa and the rebuild of the Tapiola swimming hall (Aarne Ervi), the Pirkkola swimming hall and sports park, and the Raati sports centre in the Raatti Stadium area of Oulu.

How We Work

Expertise in the Historical and Cultural Value of Buildings
We understand the heritage significance embedded in historic architecture. In projects with protected and historically valuable buildings, we work closely with conservators, users, museum specialists and skilled craftsmen to restore and renew unique building elements.

Experience in Combining the New and the Old
We extend the life cycle of historic buildings through carefully designed additions that balance modern functionality with preservation needs. Our knowledge of historic architecture enables us to refurbish without compromising cultural or historical value.

Qualifications for Demanding Projects
We ensure feasibility and buildability from concept to execution. With experience in both new urban design and restoration in the historic districts of central Helsinki and beyond, we manage even the most complex projects with confidence.

Collaboration
We work side by side with our clients through a collaborative design approach, drawing on the expertise of the Solwers group. We are recognised as approachable specialists who make sure every client feels valued, heard and fully engaged throughout the process.

Sustainability at the Forefront
We integrate design and environmental performance in both old and new buildings, conserving natural resources and holding the EcoCompass Certificate for our practices. Using One Click LCA, we measure and optimise environmental impacts at every stage of a project.

Building Information Modelling
We design and coordinate all projects with BIM and modern software tools. This improves accuracy, smooths collaboration and ensures every discipline works from the same information. We have strong experience in coordination, data modelling and visualisation.

Local Knowledge
We have strong relationships with Helsinki’s planning and building authorities – including the City Museum and the National Board of Antiquities – which helps us manage permits and planning processes smoothly.

Collaborative Project Management
We work seamlessly across project formats, from traditional contracting to collaborative models such as project management and alliance contracting. With open communication, shared goals and efficient decision-making, we ensure smooth delivery of even the most complex projects.

Case Project: Lahti City Hall
The renovation of Lahti City Hall, originally designed by Eliel Saarinen in 1912, was delivered as an alliance contracting project. The project renewed all technical systems, preserved Saarinen’s original architecture and Antti Nurmesniemi’s 1980s interiors, and carefully restored historic details. The courtyard was reimagined as a welcoming public space for residents, strengthening the building’s role as the civic heart of the city.
