Brewery Restaurant
In the 1820s, merchant Petter Brofelt commissioned the construction of a new stone building on Esplanadi in the Sarvikuono Quarter. The ground floor housed Brofelt’s shop with private living quarters above. The building was designed by Jean Wik.
A bank hall and a wing on Sofiankatu were designed by Emil Fabritius and built between 1912 – 1914. The building was renovated in the early 1970s according to the plans of Aarno Ruusuvuori.
The exterior walls and the building core are original, but the interiors were rebuilt. The Fabritius bank hall and the 2nd floor facilities were restored. The previous renovation was completed in 2000, when the building services were also renewed. In 2009, restaurant premises and support spaces were added in the bank hall on the 1st floor.
Today, the upper floors house offices of the City of Helsinki. We designed a new brewery restaurant in the former basement archive rooms and on the Sofiankatu side of the 1st floor, with the brewing equipment installed in the courtyard.
