Raatti Sports Center

The Raatti Sports Centre with its stadium was completed in 1959. The site is protected by zoning regulations. We commenced planning the renovation in 2007. Construction started in 2009.
The comprehensive renovation included a 4000 square meter extension. The sports centre gained a new sports hall and as well as new 25-meter pool, cold pool, and children's pools in the swimming hall. In addition, the entire outdoor grandstand was refurbished and expanded, and a canopy structure of considerable urban significance was designed and constructed above the grandstand, establishing it as a landmark.

The original reinforced concrete frame had suffered severe deterioration in places due to the swimming pool environment. Hence the integration of the ground-bearing reinforced concrete frame extensions with the existing structure posed challenges. In addition, the limited clearances in the ceiling space over the existing swimming hall complicated the design of HVAC routing and the structural solutions for the new grandstand.

The grandstand of Raatti Stadium now offers 2280 seats and modern VIP facilities with boxes. It also includes public and social facilities, as well as spaces for the City of Oulu's Sports Department.

The Northern Ostrobothnia Museum noted that the functionalist swimming pool and auditorium building have been successfully preserved as part of a new building with modern architecture.
